This article demonstrates the technical reasons behind some common client pushback, and better alternatives to recommend  to clients.

Why are we unable to make a client's site fully ADA Compliant?

Answer:

Unfortunately the list of things a site requires for ADA Compliance is too large for us to manage and maintain for our clients. It is important to note that, most mobile devices have built-in features that make it easier for users with disabilities to access websites.

Suggestion:

Our design team can check for proper color contrast and font size for people with visual impairments according to ADA Guidelines. We also will add alt tags (alternative text tags) to images on your web page if provided a list with the text you would like to include per image.

Why do we avoid auto playing audio?

Answer:

Auto playing audio on a website can interfere with the accessibility of some users, like those who use text-to-speech software due to visual impairment. Auto playing audio also drastically increases bounce rate, users leaving the site immediately. Because of this, Internet browsers like Google Chrome has banned this from happening.

Suggestion:

We suggest adding a media player with controls and we will use design to draw attention to the video or audio. This will allow users to play the media if they wish and not negatively impact the overall website experience.

Why are we unable to add C2C (click to call) to the clients phone number site-wide?

Answer:

Most users don't have the ability to make calls from their desktop device so this can have a negative impact on site performance. Modern phones also recognize phone numbers in text and make number click to call.

Suggestion:

We can increase the visibility and convenience of the clients phone number by adding a global floating button that is click to call-on-mobile, and click-to-contact-page on desktop.

Why are we no longer offering Google Translate as an option for our clients?

Answer:

Google Translate was discontinued by Google and is now only allowed for non-commercial sites that provide COVID relief. Google cited the reasons why they needed to cancel service as lack of translation control, poor user experience, no actual multilingual SEO capabilities. We do not recommend any of the paid or free alternatives on the market as they offer the same level of translation Internet browsers have built in.

Suggestion:

Browsers now have a built-in translator which most users needing a translation would already have set up upon purchase of a device. We can, however, also add a CTA banner, or pop up to the site showcasing that your business speaks other languages.

Can we add cookie notification popups?

Answer:

Unfortunately, we do not have the capability to turn on/off users cookie tracking and, therefore, do not offer an "accept" or "decline" option for tracking cookies.

Suggestion:

We can offer a notification of cookie use pop up that a user will have to select "I understand" to exit out. In addition, if the client can provide privacy policy, we will add this as a link in footer. Here is a third party privacy policy generator you can use: https://termify.io/generate-privacy-policy

Why are we unable to add videos to sliding DL rotations?

Answer:

Videos slow down websites and placing it in this position can cause the page to break. Sliding DLs also automatically rotate, so users would only see a portion of the video before it moves to the next slide.

Suggestion:

We can change your DL to a a single background video with no other slides and/or add any additional videos directly under the DL.

Why is there a limit of the amount of locations listed on service area pages and maps?

Answer:

We limit our service area maps to 25 locations per map because adding too many locations will result in negative SEO impact by diluting campaign reach and ranking.

Suggestion:

We can create a shaded radius or polygon around the area they serve on the map, or we can move forward with more locations as long as you are aware of the potential negative SEO impact.

Why do we need permission to use images or content the client does not own or have rights to use?

Answer:

Images and/or content cannot be added to a site without prior approval from the original source. This is in effort to protect both your business and TSI from copyright infringement and potential legal action. If you can provide us with permissions or a proof of purchase for images and/or content, we will absolutely get these added to your webpage.

Suggestion:

We can alternatively purchase stock images similar to your request or pull copyright free images from resources like pixabay or pexels. FOR CONTENT: Our content team can provide keyword rich alternative content for your services!

SIDENOTE: if the client has purchase stock photos please provide a screenshot of purchase in the ticket

Why can't we upload files to the root directory?

Answer:

We are unable to upload anything to our root directory since our directory is not limited to one site this will lead to a security issue.

Suggestion:

We are unable to upload anything to our root directory since our directory is not limited to one site this will lead to a security issue. Depending on your needs, we can offer some different solutions: For verification codes, they usually offer a meta tag we can add, for files to embed, we suggest a fully third party host, if its a video/PDF/image/excel/doc files, we can add it to our local media which uploads as "site.com/files/"

Why can't the design team sign into client third party accounts or give third party access to our sites?

Answer:

The design team is unable to allow any third party access to our sites, and also are unable to access your third party accounts on the your behalf, this is due to security reasons and limit access in an effort to protect you.

Suggestion:

We recommend having third party integration code sent to us as a .txt or .doc file. Images/files can also be provided in a dropbox or google drive link. If embed code can be pulled publicly, like a youtube video embed, you can just provide us the link and we will grab the code for you!

Why isn't my Google/Share link thumbnail image not updating?

Answer:

If the image has been updated in the backend of the website, it typically takes about a week or so for google to crawl the website. We unfortunately don't have control over when google will crawl the site next to see this change. If a week passes and no changes are observed, reach out to us and we will double check everything is setup correctly on our side!

Text form notifications: We do not allow text form submissions on LUNA and need client approval on NOVA

To ensure clarity and readability, we are unable to send form confirmations via text messages. Form submissions sent via text message distorts the information, making it confusing and difficult to understand. In order to prevent any potential frustration stemming from unclear communication, we provide alternative methods such as email confirmation or utilization of our CMS online portal. These alternatives enable us to maintain the integrity of the submission and ensure that you receive the information in a clear format.

BBB Badge Code

We need code provided by the Better Business Bureau to add it to the site

To ensure our client business is accredited with the Better Business Bureau, we'll need provided code. Unfortunately, we can't add a screenshot or an image of the badge.

Glossary of terms in this article:

ADA Compliance: ADA (Americans with Disabilities Acts for Standards for Accessible Design) compliance states that all electronic information and information technology must be accessible to individuals with disabilities.

Auto playing audio: Auto playing audio such as videos, music, ads, are not advised on our client's websites and instead suggest adding audio/video players where users can start/stop the media themselves.

Desktop C2C: A desktop C2C (click to call) is when a phone number appears in the website's content while viewing on a computer and is linked to call out the phone number. For example: 123-456-7890. We do not recommend desktop C2C features. We are unable to make every phone on a clients site C2C.

Google Translate: Google translate was a third party widget to be installed on websites that would translate the entire site to another language. We are no longer offering Google Translate for our sites.

CCPA Cookie Compliance: CCPA Cookie Compliance is when companies are allowed to use and load cookies on their website but they must let users know they are gathering data and the ways in which they would use it. This must also give an option to let users know they can opt out and tell them how to do it.

Third Party Integration & Access: Third Parties are any company or resource that provides services to our client outside of TSI's own offerings. They often include embeds or integrations that are meant to be added onto our sites so that the client can utilize the third party's service as well as TSI's.

Google/Share Link Thumbnail: The share image refers to the preview image that appears on google when you search the site or when you share a link to the site on social media platforms.
