How do I tell if an image may be stock?
If you suspect that the image may not be directly owned by your client you can search for the image on the web the same way Designers do!
It's called Reverse Image Search
Typically if the image shows up on other sites it's going to be something that isn't directly owned by the client. If that is the case we need to verify who owns the image.
We Need Proof of Permissions For:
- Images that are stock photos and are NOT from our plugin. (iStock, Shutterstock, Bigstock, etc)
- Product images from Manufacturers. (Ex. Trane HVAC unit images for a dealer site)
- Any image with watermarks. (If the watermark is from a stock photo site they will need to purchase the image to use.)
- Images pulled from any other source online.
- Any image the client did not take with their phone/camera or create themselves.
I see the image used on other sites, now what?
If the image searched is on other sites we can assume that it may not be directly owned by the client and we will need to do one of the following.
Have client send proof of permissions - this can be a screenshshot of the image copyright from the source they downloaded from or an email from the original owner of the image. If it's a purchased stock image they can find this through their account in the third party.
Please note that if they downloaded through a third party stock resource we will need the image or image id included in the proof of permissions as we will need to verify they have rights to that specific image.
OR
If we can't get permissions, we can choose a similar image from our own library.
